How does Popmoney work?
Popmoney allows you to send money to friends, family or anyone.* If your financial institution offers Popmoney, you can log onto their online banking site to use Popmoney there. If your bank does not offer Popmoney, you can sign up at popmoney.com.

After you enter your information, you can send or request money from your contacts. They will be notified by email or text message that you wish to send money or are requesting money from them. You and your contacts will never need to exchange financial account information.

*A $0.50 fee will apply. Refer to the terms and conditions in the footer of the bill payment portion of Internet Banking.

How fast can I send funds?
The timing to send the funds depends on the type of account used to make the payment. The recipient can receive the funds as quickly as the very next day. There is a limit on the number of next-day transactions you can send. To view your limit, select the help icon next to the payment amount. Once you've used all of your next-day transactions, your funds will be sent within three business days. The delivery speed will be displayed when you schedule the payment. It could take additional time if your contact has not used Popmoney or will have to log in and accept the payment.

If you are sending the payment notification through email and your contact wants to collect the funds into an eligible transaction account, they must provide their eligible transaction account information by 12pm Eastern Time in order to receive the funds the next business day.

What if I don't have a United account? Can I still receive funds?
Not a United customer? No problem. If the person receiving the money is not a United customer and their bank doesn’t offer Popmoney, they will be directed to Popmoney.com to retrieve the funds.

Will my bank account information be shared with the recipient?
No, your bank account information will not be shared with the recipient. Your recipient will see your first name, last name, and the message you wrote for the payment; if you sent the payment to your contact's email address, your recipient will also see your email address. Similarly, you won't be able to see your recipient's bank account information.

I just received a notification that funds are waiting for me. How do I redeem them?
If the money was sent using your email address or mobile phone number, your email or text notification will include instructions on how to deposit the payment into your eligible transaction account. If the sender uses your eligible transaction account information, the money will be deposited directly into your eligible transaction account. In that case, you will only receive a notification if the sender enters an optional message when submitting the payment.

What are different ways I can send money to someone?
You can send money using a recipient's:

  • Email address: your contact will receive an email with instructions on how to direct the payment into his or her eligible transaction account.
  • Mobile number: a text message will be sent to the recipient with instructions on how to direct the payment into his or her Eligible Transaction Account. If the recipient does not respond to the payment notification after 3 days, a reminder text message will be sent reminding him/her to act on the payment notification.
  • Eligible transaction account information (routing and account number): money will be directly deposited into your contact's Eligible Transaction Account. You will also have the option to send the contact an email.
